Call for Abstract
WISDOM Equity Symposium 2024
Theme:
Equity in Science: Beyond Academia.
Women in Science; Development, Outreach, and Mentoring (WISDOM) invite abstract submissions for the 2024 WISDOM Equity Symposium to highlight Equity in Science with perspectives beyond academia.
2024 WISDOM Equity Symposium Research Themes: We seek abstracts for the three major themes below:
1. From process to outcome working toward health equity
- Work/research addressing public health and health equity in population health, clinical health services, quality improvement, or education.
2. Community Collaboration
- Building successful collaborations across industry relationships, research practitioners, policymakers, patient advocates, and other stakeholders to champion social equity and justice for a more significant collective impact.
3. Bridging the Divide
- Focus on intersectionality and Privilege within the non-academic scientific community.
Note: There will be no poster session, abstracts will be evaluated for selection of a maximum of two talks only.
Submission Guidelines:
All University of Manitoba Trainees are welcome to submit abstracts focusing on the themes detailed above.
Abstracts are limited to 300 words, and successful submissions will present a 10-minute oral presentation followed by a 5-minute Q&A session.
The abstract should follow the structure: Issue/Objective, Methodology/Approach, Results, Discussion/Conclusions. Please choose appropriate headings, if your abstract does not fit into this format.
Please include a statement on the relevance of the conference sub-theme. The statement may be of direct relevance, or it may be as a contribution to methods that result in more robust evidence production.
Provide learning goals that describe learning outcomes for participants (i.e., expansion of knowledge base or skills).
Do not include any personal data about specific individuals.
Evaluation Criteria
1. Relevance to Conference: Highly relevant to conference topic, themes & objectives.
2. Quality: The abstract is well-organized, coherent, and effectively communicated, displaying clarity, conciseness, and a strong command of the subject matter.
3. Contribution to Advancing Knowledge: The abstract contributes significantly to understanding within the specified subtheme, discussing potential implications, applications, or outcomes that align with the intended learning outcomes.

Trainee Abstract Submission Deadline: October 15th, 2024
Conference Registration Deadline: October 20th 2024
Notification of Selection of Trainee Talks from Abstracts: October 25th.
