Are you looking for an opportunity to develop relationships with a small group of girls in your community and help them fall more in love with reading (and maybe fall more in love with it yourself!)? Then sign up to be a Spitfire mentor!
Spitfire mentors promote positive family and peer relationships, social-emotional development, and confidence-building with our Spitfire girls.
Responsibilities
Mentors:
- Are willing to commit to a school-year timeline (September/October-May) of attending one meeting a week, and reading weekly curriculum, for no more than 2.5 hours of a time commitment per week.
- Agree to attend the required training sessions in September, and the 2-3 training opportunities that we will have throughout the year
- Want to work with a small group of mentees (3-4) at one time
- Support mentees by: empowering them, providing a model for healthy, trusting relationships through clear communication and setting appropriate boundaries, sharing in the magic of reading, and most importantly, having fun!
- Are active listeners who offer support and encouragement when appropriate
- Believe that all Spitfire girls are good and have the capacity to thrive
