“Babies at the Barnyard” is a new program we plan to launch
in the summer of 2025 to support caregivers of children under the age of three
with developmental delays and disabilities in Pierce and St. Croix counties.
The program will empower these families and enrich their parenting capacities
by combining nature-based play and evidence-based parenting strategies.
Research underscores the benefits of outdoor play and the proven success of the
Triple P Positive Parenting Program, which will both form the foundation of
this six-week initiative.
The program will run for six weeks, from July 7 to August
11, 2025, with two identical 60-minute sessions per week. This schedule
provides flexibility for participants while ensuring accessibility.
Each session will include:
- 15
minutes of unstructured peer play and social interaction: Allowing
children and caregivers to build connections in a sensory-rich
environment. Participants will have an opportunity to explore and enjoy
the various animals and activities available at the Barnyard.
- 30
minutes of structured instruction: Guided by Erika Hybben, a
Speech-Language Pathologist with over 24 years of experience, most of
which has been working with families in the birth to three program. Key
concepts from the Triple P Positive Parenting Program will be delivered
through interactive and playful methods.
- 15
minutes of guided play: Focusing on self-awareness, self-control, and
interpersonal skills.
- Snacks
will be provided.
