Coach Code of Conduct

As a COACH, I understand and must abide by the following rules and expectations:

  1. I understand that my approval to coach is based on the results of a background check and board approval.

  2. I will do my best to effectively communicate with the Board of Directors and player families.

  3. I will attend the seasonal coaches meeting for each division I am coaching.

  4. I will keep in compliance with Little League International’s expectations of volunteers to be up to date on all training and classes, with my certifications turned into the volunteer coordinator.

  5. I promise to review and practice the necessary first aid principles needed to treat the injuries of participants in my care.

  6. I will abide by the established policies, rules, and regulations, putting first the safety and well-being of all who participate.

  7. I understand that the use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs are prohibited at all Little League events. I will not attend, coach, officiate, or participate in an event while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

  8. I will not publicly question or criticize an official’s judgment and will encourage parents and players to do the same.

  9. I will not use social media or any other means of communication in a negative manner regarding anyone, including but not limited to players, parents, other coaches, officials, or Orchard Mesa Little League.

  10. I will ensure that I am knowledgeable in the rules of each division that I coach, and I will teach these rules to my players.

  11. I will use appropriate coaching techniques and organize practices that are fun and challenging for all of my players, based on their skill set.

  12. I will be a positive role model by demonstrating fair play, sportsmanship, and respect to all my players, parents, umpires, opposing coaches, and teams.

  13. I will place the emotional, mental, and physical well-being of all participants ahead of my personal desire to win.

  14. I will remember to treat each player as an individual and remember that each child develops at their own rate (emotionally and physically).

  15. I will remember that I am a youth coach and that the game is for the children, not adults. This is supposed to be FUN and I am responsible for helping grow happy and healthy human beings.

  16. Failure to abide by these standards may result in a discussion with the OMLL Board of Directors regarding future involvement with the Little League.
