Westridge OBOB '20-'21 signups
What is the Oregon Battle of the Books?
The Oregon Battle of the Books, OBOB, is a statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries in conjunction with a Library Services and Technology Act grant. Students in 3rd-12th grade, regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints. There are 16 books chosen by state OBOB volunteers.
Teams of three to five divide up the books and read them in preparation for school “battles.” Only four members will be able to participate in a battle, so teams of five will need to create a rotating schedule so all members can participate. 3rd grade students need to be teamed with all 3rd graders, 4th and 5th graders can be on mixed grade teams. This year's competition is open to ALL 3rd, 4th and 5th graders either in the Westridge Hybrid classrooms or the LO Online classrooms of Ms. Miller, Ms. Calvert and Ms. McKay -- INCLUDING LO Online students for whom Westridge is not normally their home school. We only ask that students not signup both for the Westridge competition and any competition held at another school as the available question sets will be the same.
Please sign up kids by DECEMBER 11, 2021 to give us time to place as many students as possible on teams and also to give kids time to meet as teams and read, read, read before February!
Westridge's OBOB competition will be held VIRTUALLY in February or March, 2021.
