The Young Artist Competition in Strings 2019
The Tuesday Musical Club, Inc. holds the distinction of being the oldest music club for women in Texas. Mrs. Anna Hertzberg, who was a graduate of the New York Conservatory of Music, founded the Tuesday Musical Club in 1901 for the purpose of performing and discussing classical music. Currently the club numbers about 250 members. Since 1956, the Young Artist Competition has been held each Spring for serious students of music who study in Texas. Contestants must be:
- Between 18 and 26 years of age on the day of the competition
- A student in a Texas school, or studying with a private teacher in Texas, or a resident of Texas

Contestants must not be:
- Under professional management
- A previous first place winner of this competition

The application must be completed online on or before midnight, January 12th, 2019.

Requirements for the online application:
- Completed Application Form
- MP3 of contestant performing two pieces with accompaniment
- Proof of age with a copy of photo ID, drivers license, or passport
- $40 application fee, payable with PayPal or credit card

Repertory Requirements
For the audition recording: two contrasting art pieces, pieces or combination thereof from two different musical periods-Baroque, Classical, Romantic, or Modern.

For the competition: three art pieces, pieces, or combination thereof from three of the four major musical periods-Baroque, Classical, Romantic, or Modern. These pieces must be sung from memory and use piano accompaniment only.

The Competition
The competition will begin at approximately 10:00 a.m. on March 3, 2018 at the Tuesday Musical Clubhouse located at 3755 N. St. Mary's St., San Antonio, TX 78212—this is not the mailing address.

Practice rooms will be provided at a local university for warm-ups. You will not be able to warm up at the clubhouse, inside or outside.

Contestants are admitted into the clubhouse between auditions only. Auditions are 15 minutes each.

Please arrive and sign in at least 30 minutes before your audition.

An accompanist will be recommended by the Tuesday Musical Club for those contestants without one. All arrangements, including financial, are the responsibility of the contestant.

A panel of three judges will evaluate the competition performances and provide written comments.

Contestants must supply three copies of their music for the judges*. The judges may hear the contestant's pieces in any order and may choose not to hear the entire piece. The contestants may not speak to the judges before or during the contest.

The awards are presented in the clubhouse immediately at the close of the competition after the judges confer. All decisions are final.

The first place winner of the competition commits to performing at the Tuesday Musical Club's annual Luncheon beginning at 10:30 a.m. on May 8, 2018.

*If photocopies are supplied, they must be legal copies, otherwise original scores must be provided.
