We are inviting you to take part in a research study conducted by Eve Lansford, a high school student in New York participating in a science research program, and Nigel Newbutt, a professor at the University of Florida. The purpose of this research study is to explore how the views between parents and autistic adolescents differ on the transition to college. If you agree to participate in the study, you will be asked to complete a short survey asking about how you feel you/your child perceives the transition process to college-exploring various areas and domains. You will be asked about specific areas and how confident/comfortable you/your child feels is in each area.
The survey should take around 10 minutes to complete. You will be asked about your (child's) age, type of diagnosis, and when transition to college date.
There are no anticipated risks from this study. We hope the findings from this project will help to better inform the college transition processes and accommodations in preparation for autistic youth attending college. Parental views will help us learn more about supporting youth as they navigate the college environment. In the long run, insights to challenges and opportunities of autistic youth transitioning to college will help us learn about ways we can usefully help and support families and autistic youth.
There will be no identifiable info, all of the data will be anonymous. The data will be stored on a password protected computer with only researchers having access to the data. All data will be destroyed after the study is completed. Your participation is voluntary and you may refuse to participate or withdraw from the study at any time. This study has ethical approval from Horace Greeley High School's IRB.
If there is anything about the study or your participation that is unclear or that you do not understand, or if you have any questions or wish to report a research-related problem, you may contact Eve Lansford at evelansford7@gmail.com or Nigel Newbutt Ph.D. at nigel.newbutt@coe.ufl.edu.
