About Families Helping Families of Acadiana
Families Helping Families of Acadiana has been incorporated since 1992.  We serve the area of Region IV which includes the parishes of Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin and Vermillion Parishes.  FHF of Acadiana’s core services include information and referral, education and training and peer support.  We are a 501©3 organization that is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of 51% individuals with disabilities or family members and other interested community members.

Our mission is to assist and strengthen individuals with disabilities and their families through a coordinated network of resources, services and supports.

FHF of Acadiana coordinates and collaborates with several agencies statewide.  We are also part of a statewide network of ten Families Helping Families Centers. We offer a resource lending library, quarterly newsletter, research on disability related topics, information and referral, education and training and peer support and advocacy skills training.

The program staff of FHF of Acadiana are all family members of individuals with disabilities or individuals with disabilities themselves. We are a unique agency that can answer specific questions about disabilities from our own personal experiences and lend a supportive and helping hand to families living with disability issues. Only at Families Helping Families centers can a parent or family member get information from another parent or individual with a disability that has accessed the SAME services and learned first hand how to navigate the many different service systems.

We serve over 3000 families each year who are seeking information and referral about various resources and services in the community, need help navigating special education process, want to be a part of systems change advocacy, request peer support and need any other information related to various disabilities.
