Paralegal Division Committee Sign-Up
Serving on a committee is a great way to get involved with the Paralegal Division. Please review the list of committees and mark your choice(s). Please note, you must be a member of the NCBA Paralegal Division to join these committees. Your participation is needed, so join today!
Awards – The Awards Committee coordinates the creation/revision and distribution of the nomination forms for awards to Paralegal Division members. The Committee reviews the nominations and decides who will be the recipient of the awards. Our current award is The Distinguished Paralegal.
CPE – The Continuing Paralegal Education Committee is responsible for all continuing education programs, which shall be conducted in consultation with the North Carolina Bar Foundation. The Committee also has a Webinar Subcommittee that identifies speakers for future webcasts.
Ethics – The Ethics Committee addresses ethical issues that come before the Committee and reports such matters to the Chair and Council. This Committee updates the Code of Ethics as necessary and serves as a liaison to the North Carolina State Bar Authorized Practice Committee.
Historian – The Historian Committee archives Paralegal Division accomplishments, important documents, photographs, videos, etc. Our current Historian Committee Chair has created wonderful scrapbooks capturing the important events in our history.
Membership – The Membership Committee promotes the benefits of membership in the Paralegal Division. Committee members also promote joining the Division to paralegal schools across the state.
Paralegal Student Relations – The Paralegal Student Relations Committee builds bridges with paralegal students in paralegal programs. The primary purpose is to promote paralegal education and encourage membership with the Paralegal Division as a student member and upon completion of membership requirements after graduation.
Pro Bono – The Pro Bono Committee works with the NCBA Public Service Advisory Committee to encourage attorney/legal assistant participation in Pro Bono programs. Paralegal Division members who participate in Pro Bono programs are great assistance to the attorneys in legal service matters for the public. Some of the opportunities available include Wills for Heroes, Middle School Mock Trial competitions, and Legal Feeding Frenzy.
Publications – The Publications Committee is responsible for regular communication with the members of the Paralegal Division via the Division’s blog and listserv, including notices, articles of a substantive nature, and any other information that would be a benefit to members.
Scholarship – The Scholarship Committee is responsible for the selection of essay topics, promotion of the scholarships on the blog and listserv and determines the scholarship. The winners are invited to the Division’s Annual Meeting to be recognized during lunch. The current scholarships, Member & Student, are yearly awarded with the winning submissions shared on the blog.
Survey – The Paralegal Division utilizes a bi-annual Survey which may include information about education, salary, benefits, and important issues being addressed by the Paralegal Division as a benefit to members for use in their professional advancement/development.
