We, the undersigned Humboldt County residents, stand with our front-line hospital workers in calling on Providence to immediately stop cutting community healthcare services that have been available locally for generations.
As the only major hospital operator in Humboldt County, Providence has a civic responsibility to provide the full array of medical services for everyone in our community, including potentially life-saving OB/GYN care. But since taking over St. Joseph Health hospitals, Providence has done nothing but eliminate services, forcing patients to go as far away as Santa Rosa for medical procedures.
With its billions in reserves and long history of profits in Humboldt County, Providence has no excuse to have closed the birthing center at Redwood Memorial Hospital, closed the only inpatient acute rehabilitation center in Humboldt County, and sold off its outpatient labs.
With Providence now moving to significantly reduce the availability of open heart surgery in Humboldt County, we stand with Providence caregivers in demanding that Providence keep medical services in our community.
