2020 Massachusetts Super Librarian Award (M.S.L.A.)
DESCRIPTION: This award honors excellence in school librarianship. Honorees have built programs that enhance student learning and are exemplars for others. The Super Librarian works on the regional and state level to contribute to improving all school libraries.

Up to six awards may be awarded. Winners may be re-nominated for this award in the third year after last receiving it. Members who wish to nominate themselves may submit this application. Nominations may also be made by a non-member of MSLA.

The nomination should include specific information of how the nominee consistently demonstrates exemplary school librarianship in one or more of the following categories:
*Inquiry: Engages students in inquiry-based learning experiences.
*Inclusion: Provides an environment that is inviting, safe, flexible, and equitable and consistently provides access to information that represents diverse points of view.
*Collaboration: Provides an environment in which collaboration, innovation, and creative problem solving thrive.
*Curation: Maintains a diverse collection of resources and consistently ensures minimal barriers of access to library resources.
*Exploration: Uses a variety of instructional methods and technology.
*Engagement: Promotes the ethical use of information, respect of copyright, and ethical online behavior.

The “Super Librarian” works to contribute to the profession of school librarianship and to improve all school libraries outside of his/her school through any/all of these activities:
*Presenting at conferences.
*Serving on committees/activities in school library organizations in his/her region and perhaps on the state level.
*Contributing to the MSLA Forum and/or other professional publications.
*Mentoring other school librarians.
*Promoting school librarianship via consistent use of social media (Twitter, blogging, Facebook).
*Leading within their district (ex: curriculum committee; PD for colleagues).

CRITERIA / ELIGIBILITY: The nominee must meet all of these requirements:
For at least the past 6 years:
*Has been a member of MSLA
*Has been a Massachusetts school librarian
*Has held a professional library degree or state certification as a library teacher
*Has held a professional position at the same school
*Demonstrates excellence by creating an outstanding School Library program that has made significant contributions to his/her school (examples, above)
*Presents evidence of activities outside the nominee’s own school in which s/he contributes to the profession of school librarianship and the improvement of school libraries

NOMINATION PROCESS: Nominations may be made by a member of MSLA or a nonmember. Self-nominations are accepted and encouraged. E-mail all supporting documents by the deadline to awards@maschoolibraries.org:
*A complete online nomination form
*A detailed list of specific program accomplishments
*A detailed list of activities outside his/her own school, contributing to the profession of school librarianship and improvement of school libraries
*A letter of support from the principal or other administrator submitted with the application

SELECTION: A Review Committee will review and rate the nominations. They will make recommendations to the Awards Committee who will make the final recommendations to the MSLA Executive Board for approval. There will be up to six (6) awards per year.

AWARD: Certificate. The Awards Committee will notify administrators and send press releases to state and local newspapers.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Write an article for the MSLA Forum (coordinated with the MSLA Forum editors) and submit a photo for use on the MSLA webpage. Create a tabletop display for the IdeaLab at the annual conference.
