Lexington MLK Day 2019 Essay Submission
On Monday, January 21, 2019, the Town of Lexington will commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with its annual family-friendly day of volunteer activities supporting the underserved.

This year, we would like to ask students to try an exercise called the Race Card Project that is a brainchild of Michelle Norris, a senior correspondent at NPR. https://theracecardproject.com/about-the-race-card-project/

Think about the word Race. How would you distill your thoughts, experiences or observations about race into one sentence that only has six words?

The theme of the short essay (200-400 words) is why you chose those 6 words.

A few of the essays will be chosen to be read at the Opening Ceremonies at Cary Hall, as well as at various events during the day. All submissions will be posted on our website and Facebook page with permissions from the students' parents/guardians.

Due date for the essays are January 7, 2019.
