I, Ana Paula Santos de Oliveira, student of the Postgraduate Program in Special Education at the Federal University of São Carlos – UFSCar, invite you to participate in the research “High Abilities: Identification and emotional context of foreign students at a Federal University” under the guidance of Professor PhD Rosemeire de Araújo Rangni.

The main objective is to identify high abilities in foreign students at a Brazilian federal public University and analyze the emotional context of these women in Higher Education.

Your participation is not obligatory. At any time, you can give up of participating and withdraw your consent without the need to justify, because your refusal, renunciation or withdrawal of the consent will not harm the research.

If you accept to participate as a volunteer in the research, will be necessary answer two questionnaires, the first instrument is the Multiple Intelligences Inventory by Walter McKenzie (2017) which contains only tick questions, divided into eight categories: linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, musical, kinesthetic body, interpersonal, intrapersonal and naturalistic. The second instrument is the Questionário para Identificação de Indicadores de Altas Habilidades/Superdotação - Adultos (QIIAHSD- Adultos) developed by Pérez & Freitas (2016) and contains 70 questions also divided into categories, namely: participant characterization and sociometric research; general features; skills above-average; creativity; commitment to the task; leadership; artistic and sporting activities. Also is requested to you indicate a person closest to you, whom we will call "2nd Source", to answer only a complementary questionnaire similar to yours, which is the Questionário para Identificação de Indicadores de Altas Habilidades/Superdotação - Adultos (QIIAHSD- Adultos - 2ª Fonte), being a requirement of the method of application of the instrument itself for verification/complementation of the data.

It will take to respond to the questionnaires, which are in Google Form format available in two languages: Portuguese or English, or in Word format that can be sent to you via e-mail, sixty (60) minutes to fill off as a first source (foreign students), whereas for the second sources, the average time to filling the questionnaire it takes forty (40) minutes, and will also be sent/invited via e-mail. The choice of language for the questionnaires is up to you as to which language you feel most comfortable or confident answering in. If you do not agree with this term or want to give up of participating in this research, just close the browser page before completing it, your data will not be saved, sent or received by the researcher and will be automatically deleted when you close the browser page. If you have completed the filling in and sent your answers and after decided to withdraw from participation, you must inform the researcher of this decision so that all your data received will be discarded without any penalty.

If you reach a minimum percentage of 70% in these two questionnaires, a new application of two other instruments will be made: the first is a scale built by the researcher, composed of closed questions that comprehend emotional aspects, which, when you identifying with the sentence must mark one (1) and if you do not identify with the phrase, just mark zero (0). The last instrument is a psychological test, the BOLIE - Online Battery of Emotional Intelligence, which also assesses emotional aspects, the battery is applied exclusively online, through an internet browser, and the tests that make up the BOLIE in its entirety are four tests: TOHE - Test of Organization of Emotional Histories; VE - Test of Emotional Speed; QoRE - Online Questionnaire of Emotional Regulation; QoE - Online Empathy Questionnaire. The average application time for the TOHE is eight minutes; for the VE, two minutes; for the QoRE, two minutes; and for the QoE, three minutes. It is important to highlight that all the applications of these instruments will be applied through electronic environments, such as video calls or transmission of documents in form, Word© format via e-mail, web browser, and will be resolved with each participant who still wishes to continue participating in the research the most appropriate time which they establish. The average time taken to answer these two last instruments is approximately one and a half hours, depending on the participant.

The risks of the research may be related to the virtual environment, the use of this form of data collection is limited due to the global pandemic caused by Covid-19. To avoid such cyber risks, will not be used platforms which the data are not encrypted, as cloud storage will not be used as well, thus avoiding the escape of your answers in the aforementioned instruments or any personal information. As to the risks related to the application of the instruments, such as embarrassment, discomfort, or insecurity at answering the questionnaire, it is suggested to choose the appropriate place and time to answer them and to avoid and/or minimize such discomfort. In cases when the participant is unable to answer the questions, leave the question spot blank.

The information obtained will be confidential and professional secrecy as a Psychologist is guaranteed about your participation, and the data obtained will be disclosed respecting your privacy, adhering to codes throughout the research to refer to each participant. However, it is hereby informed that once the responses are received from each participant on Google Forms©, or specific platform as in the case of BOLIE, the data will be downloaded onto a storage hard drive, which only the researcher will have access to, and will be later excluded from the platform in order to ensure confidentiality participants' data, thus preventing leakage. The video calls (if necessary) will not be recorded. After processing the data and after completing the search, all the data on a storage hard drive will be deleted.

Furthermore, it is attested that you, as a participant, will not have any cost to participate in the research, since it will be done exclusively by free means with the use of e-mail, platform, free encrypted video calling, the reimbursement or indemnification for any damages is also guaranteed arising from the research duly proven, also you will have no burden for participating in the research and your participation is completely voluntary. To accept to participate in this research, just click on the button "I accept to participate in this research" which will automatically appear as an electronic signature of this term (Informed Consent), which is indicated to be printed or stored a copy if you wish.

It is expected that this research will contribute to the advancement of academic knowledge on the subject of identifying foreign students with high abilities. You will receive a copy of this term, signed on every page by the researcher, which includes the telephone number and address of the main researcher. You may request additional clarifications, if necessary, about the project and your participation now or at any time. Finally, it is indicated that this document or copy is kept/downloaded in your personal files.

This research was approved by a Research Ethics Committee (REC) which is a agency that protects the well-being of the research participants. The REC is responsible for evaluating and monitoring the ethical aspects of all research involving human beings, aiming to ensure the dignity, rights, safety and well-being of the research participants.
