2019-20 Green Schools Quest - School Registration Form (Due Sept 15, 2019)
Thanks for your interest in participating in the Green Schools Quest: A Project-Based Challenge!

School registration forms are due September 15, 2019, 11:59 PM CST. Submit your registration by completing the form below. Green Teams may be a single classroom, a grade level, an entire school or a student club. One registration form is allowed per school. Districts are encouraged to submit separate registration forms for each individual school that is interested in participating as judging will take place in three categories: Elementary, Middle (6-8 grade), and High.

Schools are NOT required to identify a specific project to work on in order to register, though the registration form provides the opportunity to include a project description. Project descriptions assist USGBC-MGC in matching your project with the appropriate Green Mentor. If you do not have a specific project in mind that is NO PROBLEM - simply identify 2 areas of interest and indicate 'to be determined' on questions seeking project details. Once the Green Schools Quest is underway, schools may engage in projects that stray from the ideas shared on their registration form.

While USGBC-MGC will make every effort to match a mentor with each school registrant, the number of school/mentor pairings will be contingent upon the number of mentors available.

Please contact hope.gribble@mobot.org if you have any questions.

The Green Schools Quest is part of Green Apple Day of Service, a global initiative spearheaded by USGBC's Center for Green Schools. Check out www.mygreenapple.org for more information about Green Apple Day of Service.

Overview
The U.S. Green Building Council - Missouri Gateway Chapter (USGBC-MGC) challenges your school to form a team to green your school which can result in lower operating costs and will positively impact your students, teachers and community forever. Our goal is to empower students and communities to be good stewards of their own environments. To assist the Green Teams, a USGBC-MGC Green Mentor will be assigned to each school Green Team to help with ideas, documentation, and resources.
Projects
The Green Team will select a low or no cost project to begin October 2019 and conclude on March 15, 2020. Schools are welcomed (but not obligated) to pursue additional resources such as donated products/services or grants if they wish; no funding will be provided by USGBC-MGC.

Projects must be NEW or MAJOR EXTENSIONS of existing initiatives at each school. Schools may not submit the same project multiple years.

A sample list of 101+ Ways to Green Your School is available at www.usgbc-mogateway.org/green-school-quest/. The Green Team will document their impact, such as energy or resource savings, during the project. Each Green Team will submit their project’s process and impact for judging by an impartial panel by March 15, 2020.

Recognition
Cash Awards ($600 for first place, $400 for second place, $200 for third place) and trophies will be presented to three participants in each category: elementary school, middle/junior high school (6-8 grade) and high school. Five additional awards will be presented across the categories: Rookie of the Year (new to the GSQ), Sustainability Champion (3 or more years of GSQ participation), Focus of the Year (2018-19 Focus is ENERGY), Judges' Choice, and Innovation. Winners of these five additional awards will receive $100. Winners will be announced at the 13th Annual Green Schools Event taking place in April 2020. The USGBC-MGC Green Schools Committee will present awards to winning teams at their schools or school board meetings in May 2020.
