Volunteer Positions
Rock the Rez volunteers must be women or gender non-conforming individuals. Men who are interested in helping, please see "Load-In/Load-Out" opportunities below. Below are descriptions of the various volunteer positions available at camp. Please note the time commitments required for each position, some are more involved than others.
INSTRUMENT INSTRUCTORS:
Volunteer must have some experience with instrument (guitar, bass guitar, drums or vocals) and the confidence to teach. Instructors will provide instruction from 9:30-10:40am. They will be provided a music curriculum to follow, a fan for the room they are in, and cleaning products to sanitize the area and instruments in the area. Instrument instructors can also be band coaches!
WORKSHOP LEADERS:
Workshop leaders will provide an original hour long workshop from either 10:45-11:45am or 2:40-3:40pm.
This is a chance to show off your expertise and share you story/work/passion with us. Past workshops have included: cultivating positive body image, navigating toxic relationships, traditional beading, archery, nutritional health, identity, stereotypes, etc. All workshop supplies will be provided by Rock the Rez, campers will have individual supplies for each workshop.
BAND COACHES:
Guide a camp band through their daily practice. This includes song writing, naming the band, and making sure all voices are heard. Music experience is not required but encouraged for this position. It is incredibly important that Band Coaches are able to help bands with creative solutions to problems that come up. Band Coaches must be present for Monday-Friday 1:00-2:30PM of camp. Band coaches can also be instrument instructors!
Camp Cook:
Prepare breakfast and lunch for campers and volunteers (at least 30 people) clean up cafeteria/kitchen area, sanitize area and utensils. Menu will be pre-determined and shopped for by Camp Directors. Little cooking experience will be required. Volunteer to help in the kitchen for one day or all five Monday-Friday.
LOAD IN/OUT CREW:
A lot of Rock the Rez's gear is stored across the country and will need to be moved into the space for camp. Load-In help will be needed on Sunday, June 23rd in the afternoon and Load-Out help will be needed following the showcase on Friday, June 23rd. This is a fantastic opportunity to volunteer if you are a man looking to support the mission of Rock the Rez.
PHOTOGRAPHER:
We would love photographer friends to share their skills with us and shoot photos during camp. If you are interested in helping with this, please let us know when you are available to come in.
CAMP THERAPIST:
We are seeking a licensed therapist for this position. Therapists will work with campers through out the week of camp Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm, unless otherwise noted. This position includes morning check ins, eating meals with campers, and being available if a camper needs a moment to process.
LUNCHTIME PERFORMER:
Lunchtime performers will play a 15-25 minute set for our campers as they eat lunch. We encourage lunchtime performers to share their musical journey with the campers as well as answer any questions they may have. Rock The Rez can provide any musical equipment needed.
