Pool Lifeguard
SALARY: $21.91/hour 

AGE: 17 years by June 7, 2025

DUTIES: Surveys a public swimming pool; prevents patron accidents; rescues swimmers in distress; conducts swimming, lifesaving, and instructor level courses; enforces regulations and codes; coaches team and individual aquatic sports and performs related work and other tasks assigned by management. The primary responsibility of the lifeguard is the safety and protection of pool patrons by preventing accidents, and when required, making rescues. The lifeguard must be alert and take action in enforcing safety rules and ordinances. In an emergency, the lifeguard must think quickly and clearly, in some cases taking personal risks and exerting considerable physical effort. The lifeguard is required to work day and evening hours including weekends. An employee of this class is usually employed only during the summer months and must qualify each year in a performance test.

Lifeguard Aide
SALARY: $18.72/hour 

AGE: 16 years by June 7, 2025

Under close supervision of pool lifesaving staff, the Lifeguard Aide helps to provide for a safe, well supervised, outdoor recreational experience at an Aquatic Facility. Lifeguard Aides will gain experience in leadership, teamwork, aquatic safety skills, and first aid as well as gain relevant experience in lifeguarding. The position provides a pathway to a Pool Lifeguard job by developing job skills, proper work habits, and leadership qualities through work experience.

DUTIES: Under close supervision of lifesaving staff surveys a public swimming pool; prevents patron
accidents; may utilize rescue skills to assist swimmers in distress; assists in the delivery of aquatic
programs; enforces regulations and codes; and performs related work. The primary responsibility of the
lifeguard aide is the safety and protection of pool guests by preventing accidents, and when required,
assists swimmers in distress. The lifeguard aide must be alert and take action in enforcing safety rules and
ordinances. In an emergency, the lifeguard aide assists the lifeguard in crowd control and other tasks as
assigned by the lifeguard. The lifeguard aide may be required to work day and evening hours including
weekends.

Open Water Lifeguard I
SALARY: $31.75/hour 

AGE: 18 years by May 18, 2025

DUTIES: Oversees the safety of patrons at open water facilities such as beaches and lakes; patrols open water facilities operating an authorized emergency vehicle; rescues and takes preventative measures to protect patrons using the facility for recreational boating, jet skiing, water skiing, sail boarding, swimming, and other recreational activities; may operate rescue trucks and rescue powerboats to perform these tasks; may conduct swimming, lifesaving, and instructor level courses; enforces regulations and codes; cleaning and maintaining facility and rescue equipment; and perform related work. The lifeguard is required to work day and evening hours including weekends. An employee of this class is usually employed only during the summer months and must qualify each year in a performance test.
Locker Room Attendant
SALARY: $20.60/hour 

AGE: 15 years by May 26, 2025

DUTIES: Check in and out patrons’ clothing; cleans dressing rooms, showers, rest rooms and other parts of the pool building including trashcans on the pool deck; enforces proper patron conduct by communicating pool health and safety regulations; and may be assigned related work
Swimming Pool Clerk
SALARY: $20.60/hour 

AGE: 18 years by May 26, 2025

SPECIAL CERTIFICATION: Valid CA Drivers License 

DUTIES:  Supervision of locker room attendants, greet the public, receive payments and fees and admit patrons; bank money daily, answer the phone in a courteous and professional manner; secure patrons' valuables, and maintain daily records of attendance, cash receipts and class registrations. Basic computer skills are required.
Recreation Instructor- Learn To Surf, Learn to Kayak

SPECIAL CERTIFICATION: Valid CA Drivers License 

DUTIESEnsure all safety protocols, policies, and procedures are implemented and followed at all times. Communicate effectively with all participating entities (participants, parents, coordinator, volunteers, staff). Ability to adapt to change and maintain professionalism while following directions given by Aquatics and/or Parks management. Conduct and perform the following: parent/camper meeting, participant evaluations, assign training groups and training times, organize trip rosters, check-in and check-out participants/equipment. Promote program involvement through the discovery of surfing, kayaking boogie boarding and bodyboarding by utilizing best practice methods and a progressive step-by-step approach. Assist with additional duties as needed for the effectiveness of the program. Ability to participate in all related activities: walking/standing for long periods of time, squatting, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 50lbs of equipment, standing in inclement weather, 4-6 hours of sun exposure. Transport participants from participating pools to the beach in a city van.

 

Recreation Assistant- Camp Splash

SALARY$20.79

AGE: 18 years by May 26, 2025

DUTIESAssists in running the day-to-day operation of Camp Splash, an aquatics youth summer camp (ages 7 years to 12 years);Works directly with youth in the pool, learning and playing various sports, leading arts and crafts projects and other activities; Maintains a safe program environment for all youth, including constant supervision of children, discipline as needed, assuring that parents/guardians sign their children in and out, proper supervision on field trips, etc.; Plays, organizes and leads all games and activities, and attends all field trips; Sets-up, breaks-down, and provides proper maintenance/storage of daily equipment; Acts as a positive role model; Follows all Recreation and Parks and Aquatics rules and regulations. Prior experience working with youth is required.
