Spiritual Direction Training Program Application

The Spiritual Direction Training Program is available to women and men who are discerning a call to spiritual direction ministry and who wish to explore that call in a Franciscan context, engage in personal spiritual growth, enhance the knowledge and skills needed for this ministry.

In addition, this program is for persons who:
 Have some theological background
 Appreciate learning with others from different faith traditions and diverse backgrounds
 Have experienced and are willing to engage in continuing personal spiritual direction
 Are seeking a deeper spiritual connection in their lives
 Are well grounded in faith and are willing to articulate that faith
 Have an interest in and willingness to do readings between sessions, some personal reflection writing, and engage in a cohort of fellow seekers

The intent of the Spiritual Direction Training Program is:
 To enrich the spiritual life and theological awareness of the participants
 To offer resources, experience, and support which can prepare participants to practice the art of spiritual direction sensitively and skillfully
 To immerse the participant in the Franciscan way of being in the world, with its universal inclusivity as expressed in the presence of the Divine in all creation and the dignity of the human person.
 To develop community, building a network of people who are prepared to serve in
diverse spiritual settings.

The following questions are designed to assist the staff in getting to know you in terms of background, experience, a call to this ministry, and your expectations as they relate to our program. Please answer as fully as you can.
SPIRITUAL AUTOBIOGRAPHY:   Please write a short autobiographical summary (1-3 pages) that describes your spiritual journey up to this point, including your family background and the significant happenings in your spiritual journey and your ministries. Also indicate your reason for wanting to participate in the program and how you have sensed God’s call to this ministry. This is an asynchronous and hybrid training program which means all of our learning materials are only available via a web based learning platform, and that our gatherings include people attending via Zoom and in person.  How comfortable are you with using technology and video software like Zoom? Do you have any concerns about the hybrid nature of the program?  *

PERSONAL REFERENCES Please requests references from 3 people whom you would trust to know your work and potential as a spiritual director/guide (e.g. your pastor, spiritual director). Ask them to submit a letter of recommendation for you to the Franciscan Spiritual Center- Spiritual Direction Training Program via our Google Form.

Once we have all three references, the completed application form, a spiritual autobiography and the $35 application fee, your application file will be forwarded to the admissions team.  Interviews will be scheduled starting in August 2026.
