Dear Prospective Student and Parents,
Thanks for your interest in Philly Drum Project's Rhythm Sessions, a weekly after-school drum program held in partnership with the Village of Arts and Humanities and Play On, Philly! This program presents a unique opportunity to study with top drummers and educators from the area and connect with other drummers like you. Weekly group drum sessions will present new rhythms and beats spanning genres such as jazz, hip hop, funk, pop, etc. Classes will be taught by Matt Scarano and Gusten Rudolph and a number of guest artists including Chuck Treece (McRad, G. Love) and Tre Lambert (Meek Mill, Tye Tribbett). The program is designed to teach the foundational rhythms of a variety of musical styles and genres and their application to the drumset for live performance as well as contemporary music production. The goals of the program are to help students develop drumming knowledge and skills with a focus on Philly-prominent popular music styles, to support students through social skill development such as leadership, teamwork, and self efficacy, and to provide an arts-based learning experience that has tangible applications to varying careers and jobs in music.
This program will run from the week of March 27th through the week of May 29th. Students in grades 7-12 are encouraged to apply. Students must be available to attend at least 8 of the 10 weeks and have transportation to and from the Rhythm Sessions site in order to participate in the program. Students with 5 or more years of experience are welcome to apply as a Youth Mentor. Please make a note of that in the "Describe your Drumming Goals" section.
