Cleveland Legal Observer Request Form - Ohio NLG
The National Lawyers Guild (NLG) Legal Observer program is part of a comprehensive system of legal support designed to enable people to express their political views as fully as possible without unconstitutional disruption or interference by the police and with the fewest possible consequences from the criminal justice system.

Legal Observers:

NLG Legal Observers (LOs) document police misconduct during political actions. LOs do not act act part of the demonstration but rather document interactions between demonstrators and law enforcement in anticipation of criminal defense or civil litigation.

The Ohio Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild asks that all requests for Legal Observers are submitted AT LEAST one full week in advance whenever possible. For urgent or unplanned needs, please complete the form and we will do our best to get LOs to your action as soon as we can.

We will try to fill all requests for Legal Observers; however, we cannot guarantee the availability of Legal Observers.

Attorneys:

We also try to arrange for on-call attorneys to address urgent needs of people in custody - including but not limited to injuries, unsafe housing assignments, and addressing mass arrests. We also try to provide defense attorneys or mass defense coordination in the event of mass arrests. However, we cannot guarantee the availability of attorneys.

Jail Support Hotline:

We also try to have a jail support hotline running to allow for people in custody to report their arrests, for witnesses to report arrests, and for loved ones to get information about people arrests (when the arrested person authorizes it). However, we cannot guarantee the availability of the hotline for your action.
NLG Legal Observers observe and document interactions between law enforcement and demonstrators in anticipation of future civil or criminal litigation under the direction of NLG attorneys. NLG Legal Observers do not negotiate with law enforcement, provide legal advice, or serve as peace marshals. *
