High Tech Middle Schools Surf Club Interest Form
Please complete this interest form so we may contact you and provide information about the High Tech Middle Surf Club.
We are partnering with the HTH High School Surf Team to facilitate the return of the Middle School Surf Club. All High Tech Middle surfers—Point Loma, Mesa, North County, and Chula Vista—can join together as the HTM Surf Club in the Scholastic Surf Series (a division of the Western Surfing Association). We will be in Middle Schools Division 2.
The HTM Surf Club is open to all levels of surfers! Whether you’re a serious surfer and want to compete against other schools, or you’re a beginner and want to improve and have fun with your fellow High Tech Middle surfers, please sign up and tell your friends! Everybody is welcome. Scholastic Surf Series has divisions for girls and boys short board, longboard, and bodyboard.
Upcoming Dates to Remember:
>> Sept. 28 at 5:30 pm: Zoom informational session for surfers and families
>> Late September or early October: Complete your SSS registration in order to attend practice
>> October 2: First practice and water safety evaluation (8 am in Mission Beach)
After the informational session, if you decide to join the team, we will provide further instructions for the SSS registration.
Our practices begin in October, and competitions start in Oct/Nov and run through March. There are no ‘try outs’ but we will conduct a water safety evaluation at our first meeting.
SOME OF WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT as a HTM Surf Club Member:
1. We are here to have fun and develop our skills in the ocean!
2. You do need to be able to swim in the ocean. We will assess this at the first meeting.
3. You must register for the HTM Surf Club with SSS to enter the water. SSS covers registered members under their accidental insurance policies. This is important!
4. You do not have to compete to be on the team
5. We will hold practices in Ocean Beach and Mission Beach on Saturday or Sunday mornings.
6. We are not able to provide wetsuits at this time, although we encourage you to have one.
7. We are not able to provide surfboards to everyone, but we do have several boards to lend at practice and at competitions if needed.
