The Civic and Community Leaders Professional Development Program affords students the opportunity to develop and master skills that are essential for being civically engaged and active in the communities where they live, work, and study. Students must be willing to make a yearlong commitment to the Walker Fellowship and to the Center for Civic Responsibility and Leadership. Students will be expected to contribute to the planning, advertising, and execution of a wide variety of civic and community events; including, but not limited to, the following:

- Constitution Day (Fall)
- Voter Registration (Fall and Spring)
- Legislative Speaker Series (Fall and Spring)
- Congress to Campus (Fall and Spring)
- Election Events (Fall and Spring)
- Campus Debates (Fall and Spring)

The program also provides an excellent opportunity for students to familiarize themselves with Harrisburg and Washington, D.C. Students will not only visit these cities, but they will also engage in learning opportunities; including, career development and planning, leadership growth and development, community engagement, and practicing professional communication skills. Students will develop greater awareness and understanding of how public policy is made, and they will have the opportunity to interact with individuals who shape the world we live in—lobbyists, leaders of think tanks, members of non-profit organizations, journalists, and those who work in the legislative, judicial, and executive branches of our state and federal governments. Round-trip accommodations for trips to both cities are provided for all students.
