The ACC/AHA has released their 2017 Guideline for the Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Management of High Blood Pressure in Adults (available at https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2664350). At a high level, the new guidelines redefine hypertension as blood pressure >130/80 and recommend starting anti-hypertensives based on ASCVD risk score of >10%. This will be a significant change from JNC-8, so we thought we should poll our users about if they would like this guideline to be reflected in the calculator or if they want to see how the discussion evolves following release of the guideline.

Keep the JNC-8 hypertension management guideline for now until we better understand the full treatment implications of the new guidelines.

Adopt the 2017 ACC/AHA guidelines in cvriskcalculator.com even it if means many more patients will be on anti-hypertensives.
