Dear Parents/Guardians:

In accordance with our school policy, I wanted to let you know that during the course of this semester, I may be showing some R-rated movies that are relevant to our course.  Some of the movies, or parts of movies, that may be shown this year include Tampopo, The Truman Show, Night of the Living Dead, Jaws, Psycho, 12 Monkeys, and Dead Man. Although some of the films we will watch this semester are not rated “R”, this letter will serve as a notice for all movies we see this semester in class.  These movies are shown primarily because of their value as cultural artifacts or pieces of art which comment on either the human condition or on the nature of society's response to the quest by the individual to understand the human condition. Your student will be asked to comment on these films through their analytical writing.

You should also be aware that any film shown for this class is intended solely for the student of this class and that some material shown may not be suitable for younger people living with the student. It is the student's responsibility to make sure no one of an inappropriate age or disposition views any part of the films shown for this class. All students have been made aware of this responsibility.
