Our giving to the Lord is:
Generous: From a heart made generous by God’s grace.“The most generous God who gives seed to the farmer that becomes bread for your meals is more than extravagant with you. He gives you something you can then give away, which grows into full-formed lives, robust in God, wealthy in every way, so that you can be generous in every way, producing with us great praise to God.” 2 Corinthians 9:11
First and Best: Let your offering to God be the first thing you do with your income, not from what is left over. “Honor God with everything you own; give Him the first and the best.” Proverbs 3:9“They gave themselves first to the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 8:5
Percentage and Cheerful: Give a percentage of your income; pray to increase the percentage you give.“On every Lord’s Day, each of you should put aside some amount of money in relation to what you have earned…for this offering.” 1 Corinthians 16:2 Each one should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7
The commitment we ask for each year is helpful to us as we prepare for the year to come, in how we in good stewardship use the gifts you so freely offer to God’s glory and for the sake of His kingdom. This gives you an opportunity to put your faith in action: “What can I offer to the Lord for all He has done for me? I will keep my promise to the Lord in the presence of His people.’ (Psalm 116: 13,14)
