The first step in becoming a volunteer is to attend one of our information sessions to find out more about our amazing opportunities. Information Sessions are held throughout the year and we are planning our next information session for late Spring. Conservation Volunteer: Help with our conservation efforts throughout the year to include clean-ups, restoration projects and special events. There is no certain time requirement for this volunteer position.
Cownose Cove Education (located at Tampa Electric's Manatee Viewing Center in Apollo Beach ): Interact with and educate guests and other team members at The Florida Aquarium's Cownose Cove exhibit at Tampa Electric's Manatee Viewing Center in Apollo Beach, Florida
Dive: Assist with the maintenance of Aquarium exhibits, interact with our guests, and assist in keeping our bays, beaches, and other local waterways clean. Must be SCUBA certified. *Additional requirements are needed to be a dive volunteer. Please check our website for the next Dive Volunteer Orientation Session
Eco-Tour: Assist staff on board our dolphin cruise that departs one or two times a day in the afternoons during busy season and one time per afternoon off-season.
Education: Interact and share information with guests at our touch tanks and along our exhibit pathway.
Guest Services: Assist with a variety of tasks including interact with guests about tours, shows, programming, membership, and basic Aquarium information. Volunteers may also assist with school group check-in, greeting buses. Volunteers may also be asked to spend time in our Splash Pad.
Horticulture: Assist with maintaining our breathtaking vegetation both inside and outside the Aquarium.
Husbandry: Work alongside Aquarium staff to maintain our exhibits and care for our animals. Please note most husbandry positions take place in the morning.
Special Events: Assist the Aquarium with Special Events such as Members Night, Sea Grapes, Brews by the Bay, Guppyween, and Snow Days. Volunteer duties will vary depending on the event. There is no certain time requirement for this volunteer position.
Additionally, please be sure to review our list of volunteer requirements applicable to all of our volunteers (once offered a position) here at the Aquarium to ensure that you are a good fit for our program.
* Must be 18 years of age or older (16 years of age for our Teen Education and Teen Guest Services Positions).
* Must commit at least 6 months to the volunteer program (does not apply to Conservation or Event Volunteers)
* Must complete 8 volunteer hours per month to remain active (does not apply to Conservation or Event Volunteers)
* Must submit a $30 registration fee to cover the cost of uniform, materials, etc.
* Must pass a background check
