This form is used to submit a grant application under the 2024-2025
Local Journalism Initiative program according to the parameters
established by the Government of Canada through Canadian Heritage and its Administrative Organization agent, Quebec Community Newspapers Association.
As an administrative body of the Local Journalism Initiative (LJI) since 2019,
QCNA has established a fair formula for distributing LJI funds on a prorated basis. This formula makes it possible to maximize the number of
beneficiary newspapers that will be able to serve, in their language, an
official language English-speaking community in a minority situation lacking
civic news.
To avoid any delays in the distribution of payments, please complete all
sections of the form below by as soon as possible before May 10, 2024.
No other documents are required at this time.
New applicants to the program will be contacted by the LJI Coordinator with further instructions.
Only one application may be submitted per eligible
legal entity, notwithstanding the number of newspapers published by the
same legal entity. LJI grants will be awarded according to the established
formula.
QCNA is responsible for coordinating the allocation of LJI funds with the other
program administrator organizations. Consequently, the applicant must
indicate in this form whether they will make an LJI request to another
organization administering the program for 2024-2025.
NEW FUNDING ALLOTMENT 2024-2025
QCNA has made the decision to focus on quality over quantity for this program year.
The established scale is intended to be fair for all
beneficiary media. Whether employed journalists or freelancers, the calculation
is based on a baseline $350 per LJI civic article produced that meets the parameters of
the QCNA LJI Guidelines for Applying.
Funding Breakdown Example:
$30,000 yearly base contribution funding amount = $30,000 ÷ $350 = 86 articles total
* $350/ article includes the editorial process to produce that article.
Please consult the QCNA LJI Guidelines at (QCNA Application Guidelines 2024-2025) before submitting an application.
Contact the LJI Coordinator, Amanda Hansen at lji@qcna.qc.ca if you have any questions or concerns.
