PALNI is seeking volunteers to serve on working group steering committees and support teams. These roles are vital to our shared governance model and offer opportunities for collaboration, leadership, and professional development. Professional development funds are available to group steering committee members, tied to specific group goals and deliverables with an emphasis on building collective expertise that can be shared broadly.

Access Services - Circulation - Task Force (*NEW*)

The Access Services task force will coordinate system implementation activities such as best practices, troubleshooting, and development efforts in PALNI libraries. The group will focus on implementation opportunities, challenges, coordination, and enhancements for access services between PALNI-supported institutions and aid in the development of associated best practices and consortial policies.

Archives (*NEW*)

This group promotes communication among library staff working in archives and aligns priorities for PALNI services in this area. This newly formed group aims to have workshops, create a network, and eventually develop proposals for archives-specific programs and grants. It provides and shares professional development opportunities and guides participation in the ArchivesSpace service.

The goals of the committee are to identify and support collaborative collection management activities, including strategy development, policy development, pilot initiation, and administrative oversight.

Electronic Resource Management (ERM)

This group oversees maintenance, best practices, troubleshooting, and development for electronic resource management in WMS. It also evaluates platform interactions, supports e-resource collection development, and evaluates metadata sources.

This group coordinates maintenance, best practices, troubleshooting, and development efforts associated with resource sharing for PALNI libraries, including PALShare.

Reference, Instruction, and Outreach (RIO)

This group coordinates end-user needs, usability, and learning outcomes assessments, and provides support and services for reference, instruction, and outreach. Please review the 2026-2027 Statement of Work for more information.

RIO Task Forces

Listed below are the task forces associated with RIO. Please select all that you are interested in joining.

Camp RIO Task Force: This group will plan and organize RIO’s Camp RIO for programmatic year 2027-2028.

LibGuide Remediation Task Force: This group will review, update or retire LibGuides that RIO has made over the years. This will focus on accessibility but also content.

Professional Development Task Force: The task force will be focused on professional development opportunities, including but not limited to the reinstatement of PALReads events.

Scholarly Communications (ScholComm)

This group develops and supports scholarly communication initiatives at the PALNI-supported institutions, including open access, scholarly publishing, institutional repositories, affordable learning, and researcher support. ScholComm raises awareness and provides related professional development opportunities via web and in-person. Guides participation in Hyku Commons, the PALSave Affordable Learning Program and the PALNI Open Press. Please check out our 2026-2027 Statement of Work for more information.

This group provides strategic, editorial, and policy-level guidance to ensure the publishing service upholds high standards of quality, transparency, and alignment with library values, institutional missions, and best practices in scholarly publishing. The Board advises on the service’s publishing scope and policy, and reviews proposals. Members serve as advocates for library publishing, contributing their expertise to strengthen its impact within scholarly communities.

This group coordinates communication and collaboration for the Open Systems Initiative, supporting the implementation of Koha, Aspen/EDS, and Metabase, while facilitating information sharing, problem-solving, and recommendations across PALNI groups.
