国際チェス連盟公認団体 - Consultation for Japan Olympiad team
NCS Japan are currently examining the criteria for Olympiad participation and invite considered member input in this consultation process. The aim is to improve the qualifying criteria and process.
Until now, the main qualification criteria for representing Japan at the Olympiad has been based on only two events: the Japan Open and the Japan Championships. However, such criteria may not be fair or the most effective for getting the strongest players to play. NCS directors have decided to examine the selection process from multiple perspectives based on further information such as the past two years’ results.
Please consider how to choose the best chess players to represent Japan, and take a moment to answer the following questions.

Thank you for your input,
National Chess Society of Japan

Have you played in an Olympiad before?
If strong enough according to the criteria, would you be interested in playing at the Olympiad?
OPTION 1. APPLICATION AND SELECTION - Players wishing to play send in an application, including all details of recent results (in terms of rating performances), and argue their case. A group of selectors rank applicant players. Olympiad team membership is based on this ranking. *
No, this would be ineffective
Yes, this would be very effective
OPTION 2. MIXED - QUALIFICATION THEN SELECTION. For example, winner(s) of Japan Championships in the two years (2021 and 2022 events for 2022 Olympiad) qualify in this way. Remaining players are selected. *
No, this would be ineffective
Yes, this would be very effective
OPTION 3. HIGHEST RATINGS ONLY. This may be a combination of NCS and FIDE ratings, the formula and weighting to be determined later. *
No, this would be ineffective
Yes, this would be very effective
OPTION 4. QUALIFICATION ONLY. No selection, no consideration of ratings. Qualification only - from Japan Championship only, or Japan Championship and Japan Open (2-3 players per event). *
No, this would be ineffective
Yes, this would be very effective
Again, it is necessary to restate that the purpose of qualifying criteria is: choose the best players, to make the best team, for the best team performance. Please add any comments or suggestions about Olympiad player qualification below:
