The Contract Action Team is the team responsible for helping build support and participation in collective action through keeping the campus informed throughout the bargaining process by having conversations with labmates, coworkers and friends to build support and participation. This can sometimes include helping with flyering, turning folks out to events or membership meetings, etc.
While not mandatory, CAT members are welcome to participate in planning and the escalation of our contract fight by join the CAT meetings or various teams/committees which report back to whole body of volunteers during the CAT meeting. Some teams include:
CAT development - supports the CAT members and builds CAT leadership through offering various informational and leadership trainings
Action - plans and facilitates the collective actions the union carries out
Data - manages membership and participation statistics
Social - helps plan events to build community within/across departments
Communications - helps create graphics, newsletters, op-eds, edit the website etc. to keep information up to date
Solidarity - helps coordinate with organizations internal and external to MIT
CAT meeting planing - facilitates CAT meeting by doing turnout and compiling the list of agenda items that CAT members and committee members raise.
Being on the CAT is a volunteer role, we do what we can and ask that when it is needed, everyone tries to do their part to make sure we can win what we deserve
