Walsh Scholars Initiative Application

The mission of the Walsh Scholars Initiative is to provide exceptional SFS undergraduate students with the professional skillset and network of practitioners and scholars necessary to address the most pressing international challenges of our time. WSI enables students to complement their rigorous academic coursework with mentorship and professional experience in order to recognize their full potential as women and men for others.

The cohort of Walsh Scholars consists of sophomores and juniors in the Walsh School of Foreign Service. Applicants are evaluated based upon academic performance, professional experience, commitment to Georgetown's values, and demonstrated interest in public service. We encourage all SFS students with a passion for public service to apply. The selection process is holistic and includes both the written application and an interview.

Application materials must be submitted by 11:59 pm on October 24 and include:

- Completed application form
- Unofficial academic transcript
- Resume
- Two letters of recommendation* (one should speak to your academic background, and the other should address applicable professional or leadership experience)

*Letters of recommendation are accepted through Friday, October 27.

Please email application materials to walshscholars@georgetown.edu and include in the subject heading "Last Name, First Name - WSI Application"

Once selected, Walsh Scholars join a community of alumni, professors, and professionals that encourages mentorship, reflection, and public leadership. Throughout the 2018 calendar year, Walsh Scholars attend professional development training, engage with public leaders in small groups, complete a public service internship, and parlay the summer experience into post-graduate opportunities. Students also receive institutional and financial support to secure a substantive, relevant, and professional-level internship in the field of public service for the summer of 2018. Internships with for-profit corporations are out-of-scope for the Walsh Scholars Initiative.
