Positions driver at insertion site with needle set at a 90-degree angle to the bone.

Gently presses needle set until needle set tip touches bone

Penetrates bone cortex by squeezing the driver’s trigger and applying gentle, steady downward pressure

Attaches syringe to EZ-IO needle. Removes needle from patient by gently twisting clockwise while slowly applying traction to needle without rocking or bending the catheter

Immediately places needle in appropriate sharps container after removal

Applies dressing/bandage to IO site

Uses or orders a dangerous or inappropriate intervention
