I understand that there are some things I can do to help keep my compost pail clean and to avoid pests and odors, such as:
- put a fresh piece of newspaper (e.g., Lumberjack newspaper) at the bottom of the pail to absorb moisture, which can get composted along with the other items in the pail;
- keep the pail in the refrigerator or freezer until it's time to empty

Returning the Compost Pail at the End of the Spring Semester
The RSA will collect, clean and store the countertop compost pails over the summer, and then redistribute them to participants at the beginning of the fall semester.
I would like to receive a bag of compost made from my food scraps (depending on availability): *
