Screening Adoption: Adoption Film Series/Adoptee Audience Research RSVP
Thank you for your interest in "Screening Adoption: Adoption Film Series and Adoptee Audience Research" with Dr. Kim Park Nelson. Please let us know below which film screening(s) you will be attending. You can join one, several, or all screenings. After each film, you will be asked (but not required) to complete a brief survey on your response to the film’s adoption content. All participation is voluntary, anonymous, and includes informed consent.

The goal of Dr. Park Nelson's research project is to collect audience response data to gauge the reaction of adoptees to feature films which contain adopted characters and/or adoption plots/subplots. Audience response is common in film studies, but adoptee perspectives on adoption-themed films have rarely been studied. Dr. Park Nelson’s research is part of a larger book project on adoption representation in film (working title Strangers in the House: Adoption Trope in Film, under contract with Rutgers University Press) and this research will contribute to one or more chapters.

Can’t attend a screening but saw one of the films within the past six months? You may still participate as a research respondent by contacting Dr. Park Nelson at kim.park.nelson@gmail.com.

Films will be screened with English subtitles except Tie a Yellow Ribbon (no subtitles available). Each film contains adoption-related content that some viewers may find difficult to watch, and the film ratings (PG, PG-13, and R) reflect the level of adult content in each film. Please watch at your own discretion.
