This poll is NOT being conducted by the City of Springfield, Lane Transit District, or any other government agency. It is being fielded by
Better Eugene-Springfield Transportation (BEST), a local nonprofit organization building a successful community by bringing people together to promote transportation options, safe streets, and walkable neighborhoods.
The poll is part of BEST’s
Better Streets for People and Businesses campaign to build support for streets that are safe, practical, and attractive for everyone; to identify which streets in Eugene and Springfield need to be better; and to develop broadly supported recommendations for moving forward.
FYI, according to the City of Springfield, “Main Street is consistently ranked as one of the most unsafe city streets in Oregon based on the severity and frequency of traffic crashes. The Oregon Department of Transportation and the City must address this problem to save lives, reduce injuries, and lessen property damage due to crashes. The purpose of the Main Street Safety Project is to select infrastructure solutions that will make Main Street safer for people walking, biking, driving, and taking transit. … On June 20, 2022, the Springfield City Council adopted a resolution to create an alternative plan for Main Street safety improvements. This action means the existing Draft Facility Plan is not moving forward for further consideration.”
