Hey! I'm Cr Kristyn Glanville one of your local Councillors on Northern Beaches Council.
I recently had a resident ask about local community gardens and in compiling a list, noticed that we don't have one in Dee Why - even though it seems like a no brainer with so many people living in an apartment without a garden!
Council owns a small reserve on Oaks Ave which is currently vacant but centrally located between Dee Why shops and the beach. It doesn't seem to be used at all, but could become a great community asset! The land is also at risk of being sold by Council because it's not actively being used and would be attractive to a developer. I want to find out whether this idea has support amongst local residents, to get the ball rolling to obtain approval via Council's processes.
Other community gardens do activities like growing vegies, composting, with individual plots and also communal plots. They are great places for the community members of all ages to work together and for young kids to learn about gardening.
