RSVP - White Supremacy: Let's Talk About It
Tuesday, February 25, 2020
9:30 am - 11:00 am
Argyros Forum 209A
Over the last several years, we have witnessed an increase in the most extreme forms of white supremacist activity on college campuses across the country. Relying on an informal discussion format, this workshop will focus on how campus environments can directly confront white supremacist ideology. From there we will reflect on Chapman’s experience last fall with a series of propaganda flyers some of which directly challenged the La Frontera conference. We will use this experience to brainstorm different responses and suggest proactive strategies that might help counter this type of exclusionary ideology. Lastly, moving beyond highly visible forms of white supremacy, we will consider how to best initiate and sustain a campus conversation about the broader less visible aspects of white supremacist ideology.
