Mahalo for your interest in being a part of the 2026 Prince Kūhiō Parade in Kapolei brought to you by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs.

The Prince Kūhiō Parade is one of the recognized legacy parades.  This annual gathering brings community groups from across the state together to celebrate the life and legacy of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana‘ole.

About Prince Kūhiō

Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana‘ole (March 26, 1871 – January 7, 1922) was a prince of the Kingdom of Hawai‘i and went on serve as a delegate to the United States Congress from the Territory of Hawai‘i from 1903 to 1922.

During his tenure in Congress, Prince Kūhiō authored and advocated for the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act which is the foundation of the Hawaiian Home Lands trust and homesteading program we know today.  In addition, he was also responsible for securing federal funds for critical infrastructure like ports and highways, establishing National Parks in Hawai'i, and structuring the current county system of government.

Prince Kūhiō was often called Ke Ali‘i Maka‘āinana (Prince of the People) and is well known for his efforts to preserve and strengthen the Hawaiian people.  He established the Hawaiian Civic Club movement with the founding of the first Hawaiian Civic Club in 1918 as he strongly desired that Hawaiians would know more about government and the community at large to carry on the tradition of civic responsibility.  Prince Kūhiō felt stimulation of civic efforts and education were vital to the development of Hawai‘i and its people for a better way of life.
