The Maunalua Makai Watch Program is currently being developed to train community volunteers and fishers to be informed with the new Maunalua Bay Fisheries Management Area rules & regulations, on top of the existing State of Hawaiʻi Division of Aquatic Resources rules & regulations. Additionally, after being trained, volunteers may be involved in one or more components of Makai Watch: fish monitoring/citizen science efforts, doing outreach to educate Bay users on rules, work with the Department of Conservation and Resource Enforcement (DOCARE) to report any illegal activity, and create a sense of community that has a shared vision to manage our Bayʻs resources.
