Thank you for taking part in this survey. We encourage all visual artists and art workers based in Australia to provide information in order for us to develop a picture of the socio-economics in our area of practice. Such research is increasingly important and urgent given the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the sector and the continuation of federal funding cuts.
This survey is designed for the following purposes:
* to work towards collectivising the arts,
* to gain an understanding of the structural disadvantages of practicing as an artist in Australia,
* to establish what actions we are willing to take in order to address these issues
and to share these findings broadly with artists, policy makers and the creative industry at large.
All data from these 28 questions will remain anonymous in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principle guidelines.
The survey will be open for 3 weeks from 18 April to 11 May 2020, with findings published online in the coming months. If you want to be kept up to date please sign up to the mailing lists of

The organisers wish to acknowledge that this work is largely produced on the traditional lands of the Boon Wurrung and the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nations. We pay our respects to their elders past, present, and emerging.
Nina Ross with thanks to the Artists' Union (Australia) working group.
The Artists' Union working group was formed in 2019. The findings of this survey will help the collective establish the most pressing issues facing artists and workers, and assess ways forward for a more unified and less precarious sector. Please get in touch at
