The project timeline is February 2018 - Jan 2019. A schedule will be created based on the volunteers' preferences for the length of their involvement.No previous experience required. On-the-job training will be provided.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Caribbean-Canadian seniors will benefit from, and contribute to, the quality of life in their community through providing authentic Caribbean story-telling and cuisine classes to the general public, including families, children, youth, adults.
Caribbean-Canadian Seniors will volunteer to share their life experiences, wisdom and knowledge with other generations and cultures, through Caribbean story-telling and cuisine classes; as a means to achieve the project's main objectives: to promote social interaction between seniors and other generations, to promote volunteerism among seniors and other generations, and to engage seniors in the community through mentoring of others.
The Caribbean story-telling will take place in several locations, including libraries and public parks.The cuisine classes will take place in various commercial kitchens (e.g. community centres, Loblaw supermarket's cooking class room, seniors' home)
Stories and cuisine classes will be recorded/documented and live-streamed on Facebook, Youtube and Persicope.Local community tv stations and newspapers will be invited to these events.
