We are asking folks to register by October 16th, 2017 [
] to insure that we have enough training materials, breakfast & lunch for everyone. Registration is FREE but a suggested October donation of $10 would be appreciated. The most important ask we have is that folks plan to attend the entire TWO days of the training. All workers are welcome.
About the Training:
The 'Organizer Training 101: Building & Maintaining The Committee' is one of the most comprehensive trainings of its kind aimed towards rank and file workers, union members, and worker organizers.
The two-days of content is more than most advanced training programs. It's a great opportunity to inspire workers and provide the the basic tools needed to organize so we can live and practice the idea of "every worker a leader."
More than anything, the training is about giving workers the confidence they need to begin organizing with their fellow workers.
Content of the Training:
Introduction: What is a Union?
Stages of a Campaign
Workplace Mapping & Social Charting
Setting Up a First Meeting
AEIOU: Agitate and Educate
AEIOU: The Union Makes Us Strong
Asking Workers to Join The Union
Going Public: Knowing When and Possibilities for How
Labor Law in a Nutshell
Picking A Target: Strategic Organizing
Can you commit to attending both days of training on October 21st and 22nd in FULL?
Are you a member of the IWW? If so how long have you been a member, and to what extent have you been involved?
What Branch/local group do you belong to?
Where do you work? How long have you worked there?
Are you currently organizing at your job or as an outside organizer with another campaign?
Please describe your campaign or organizing in detail.
What problems or challenges are you facing that you hope to get help with at the 101 training?
Do you have any dietary restrictions or food allergies we should be aware of when planning food for breakfast and lunch?
Please break down what is a *necessity* versus a *preference* -- for example "I am deathly allergic to peanuts" versus "I am vegan and prefer almond milk to soy milk for my coffee".
If you are traveling from out of town and will need somewhere to stay, please describe your housing needs below.
Please break down what is a *necessity* versus a *preference* -- for example *necessity* includes bad pet allergies and *preference* includes having a real bed to yourself. (unless of course that's necessary for health reasons). You may also indicate here if you would prefer to stay with the person you are traveling with or a female FW, etc, etc, to feel comfortable.
Please indicate here any other considerations the trainers should be aware of to facilitate your learning.
For example: "I have bad hearing and need to sit close to the front of the room", "I am left handed and need to sit so that I am able to take notes comfortably", "I am a visual learner and need to be able to see the board clearly to take notes and see diagrams"
Do you need on-site childcare? Please let us know a little about your child / children.
Use this space for any lingering comments or requests for the organizers of the training.
