Participants meet once a week during the school year. This is a rewarding experience. Participants learn how to research and document their local history, how to use digital media, public speaking, critical thinking, writing, and much more. It is also a demanding experience. It is a hands-on project which requires that everyone contribute, think deeply, work hard, and represent the group.
Once the participants have selected their topic(s), they conduct research, document the history, and find ways of teaching others about their topic. The projects can be entered in National History Day as films, a website, display boards, or plays. Students can also share what they have learned through local history tours, plaques, brochures, children’s books, mini-conferences, and more. Students can work individually or in a group on their topic.
