First Unitarian Society of Ithaca RE Volunteer Signup (Fall)
We have an ambitious religious exploration program here at FUSIT. Your participation as leaders, helpers, and resource people is vital to its success. Bringing your children to church regularly is one way of showing that you recognize the importance of spirituality and faith development. Your financial pledge also contributes to our ability to provide ambitious programming. Perhaps most important, though, is your involvement as a volunteer. Working with the Religious Exploration Program demonstrates by example that you value the program and its goals. Our program is successful because of everyone’s commitment to our church’s children and youth!

Volunteer Opportunities
There are 16 Sundays between October and January. We will offer classes 8 of those Sundays. Four Sundays will be Multigenerational Services and four Sundays will be Creative Sundays.

+ Classroom Teacher: Teach on Classroom Sundays as part of a team. Training, lesson plans, and lots of support provided. Plan to be available for 8 Sundays between October and January. Eight Sundays is 1 out of every 2 weekends.

+ Teacher Assistant: Support Classroom Teacher on Classroom Sundays as part of a team. Training and support provided. Plan to be available for 4 Sundays between October and January. Four Sundays is 1 out of every 4 weekends (or ~1x a month).

+ Substitute Teacher: Available to step in for absent teachers and teacher assistants. We maintain a list of background checked substitutes that our teachers can call on in the event that they are unavailable on a given Sunday. Volunteers on this list also may occasionally be asked to pitch in when we need an extra set of hands on a Sunday morning.

+ Creative Sunday Leader: Lead one session this year for the children ages 5 to 10 on a Sunday. Activities could involve art, music, dance, or something else you can relate to our UU faith in a child-friendly way.

+ Coming of Age Mentor: Mentor one ninth or tenth grader throughout the year as they learn more about their beliefs.

+ Youth Group Chaperone: Assist DRE and Youth Group Leader at special events, trips, and/or overnights. Those willing to drive will need a clean driving record.

+ Event Set-up or Clean Up: Volunteer to organize just one specific event, or help with food prep, set up, or clean up for various events.

+ Snack Provider: Bring a healthy snack (e.g., carrots, fruit, cheese) on a classroom Sunday for up to 30 children/youth.
