Student and Faculty Petition: #TurnDownCampusHate Across PA!
We, the undersigned students, faculty, and community members, call on our college and university presidents to #TurnDownCampusHate and make our campuses welcoming and safe for all students.
Across our campuses, student hate groups have systematically harassed and threatened students, faculty, and members of the campus community. They have attracted avowed white nationalists to campus. On April 9, they will be mobilizing at Indiana University of PA. It's time for us all to take statewide action to #TurnDownCampusHate.
Campus "diversity" plans can only go so far when students are being harassed and threatened—and when student hate groups are receiving active, material support from our schools. We support the following demands, to be delivered to our presidents across PA on April 9:
1. That school and student activities funds, which mostly draw from students' tuition and fees, not be used to support student hate groups.
2. That our colleges and universities formally and publicly denounce hate groups on and around campus, whose tactics create an unsafe, threatening environment for marginalized students.
We stand united with students from PASSHE, state-related, 2-year, and private colleges and universities across the state. Under the banner of College for All, we believe that education is a human right that should be available and accessible to all. This means ensuring that all students have the resources, support, and safety to thrive.
