Westsyde Secondary - "Totally UnBoring" Strategic Plan Priority Video Survey
We need your voice! At Westsyde we are in the process of developing our five-year School Plan for our school community. We would like to get your input on which of the following plan priorities are most important to you using this survey.

The leadership students were divided into groups and given the challenge (and very little time!) to understand their priority and then create a SHORT video showcasing this priority to you. Please take a moment and either read the description of each priority, watch the video, or both, and then make your voice heard by using the survey scales under each priority.

This survey is totally anonymous and will directly influence the direction of our plan. Thanks so much for your time.
If you have any questions or concerns about this survey, please direct them to jdevries@sd73.bc.ca

The survey will be closed at the end of the school day on Friday, April 7th. We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

I am a...
Priority #1 (VIDEO) - ENSURE EACH STUDENT ACQUIRES FOUNDATIONAL SKILLS AND CORE COMPETENCIES.
This priority focuses on what schools have been doing since their inception: teach kids math, reading, and writing. These skills are still fundamental to our future's success, and though our district usually fares well in this department, we want to make sure that we still continue to focus on what our purpose is and will always be.
Priority 1: How much should we focus on fundamental skills?
Let's not focus on this
Let's make this a top priority for Westsyde.
Priority #2 (VIDEO) - CONNECT EACH STUDENT TO THEIR INTERESTS AND PASSIONS.
This priority exists so that students are able to enter a challenging and diverse workplace with some confidence, experience, and specialized training. When students are able to focus on the specific things they find interesting, they should be motivated to work harder in that field of study.

Priority #3 (VIDEO) - HONOUR THE FIRST PEOPLES’ PRINCIPLES OF LEARNING AND ABORIGINAL WORLD VIEWS AND PERSPECTIVES.
This priority frames our teaching into a holistic, healthy view of what learning and teaching should be. These principles are innovative yet sensible, and for more information on them, feel free to check out http://www.fnesc.ca/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/PUB-LFP-POSTER-Principles-of-Learning-First-Peoples-poster-11x17.pdf

Priority #4 (VIDEO) - FOSTER AN INCLUSIVE, ADAPTABLE, AND ACCOUNTABLE DISTRICT CULTURE
This priority is directed to both students in our district, but also staff. We have a vision to be a district that collaborates, connects to homes and families, and adapts to the coming challenges of our uncertain future. With a positive and hardworking approach, our schools, students, and faculty will be able to achieve more than working in isolation.
Priority 4: How much do I value this priority of inclusivity and adaptability?
Let's not focus on this
Let's make this a top priority for Westsyde.
Priority #5 (VIDEO) - STRENGTHEN PARTNERSHIPS TO ENRICH THE WAY WE LEAD, LEARN, AND WORK.
How often do people outside a high school get the opportunity to see what's going on inside? The students and staff at WSS work hard to make this a positive place for working and learning, but how many connections do we make outside our walls? This priority focuses on partnerships between the school and community to provide more authentic learning experiences for our students, as well as a greater sense of community between our school and our neighborhoods.
Priority 5: How much should WSS focus on community partnerships?
Let's not focus on this
Let's make this a top priority for Westsyde.
Priority #6 (VIDEO) - ENSURE THE SUSTAINABLE USE OF OUR RESOURCES.
This priority is about our use of public resources, as well as our ecological footprint. We want to be good stewards of our finances, as well as have the ability to instill a sense of sustainable practices in our students for all our futures.
Priority 6: How much should we focus on the priority of sustainability?
Let's not focus on this
