Sunday, 10/19/25 - Humboldt Park Sunday Social Bird Walk

Make Humboldt Park a leisurely start to your birding day, or come join us after hitting up another spot or two earlier on in the morning.  Either way you can’t lose!  Humboldt Park during fall migration is hard to beat, as migratory birds flock to the incredible green oasis in the surrounding urban environment.

Mid-October is a great time to admire the many sparrows passing through, and to scour their flocks for uncommon ones and even rarities.  We'll also be checking out the lagoon for unexpected ducks, given their propensity for showing up this time of year.  Thrushes, kinglets, vireos, and late warblers may also make appearances. 

People of all experience levels are welcome, including folks who have never birded before.

Accessibility:

Total trip distance is approximately 1 miles and will take place mostly on wide paved, crushed-gravel, or wood-chip trails that are relatively level with minimal incline. We may leave the trail at times to walk through the grass for a better view of the birds. Any recent rain may create muddy conditions.

Restrooms are unavailable at the time of the trip.

Weather/Attire/Other:

Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Please bring bottled water. Dress for the weather. Based on the forecast, you may want to bring sunscreen and a hat. Loaner binoculars will be available.

The exact meeting location will be emailed in advance to registrants. Free parking is available at the Humboldt Park Boat House: 1301 N Humboldt Dr.  The park is also accessible by public transit via the following bus routes: 94 and 70.

I shall HOLD HARMLESS each of the Releasees from any claims, damages, injuries and losses caused by my own negligence while participating in this field trip. I understand this assumption of risk and agree that it is binding upon me, my heirs and personal representatives, and includes any minors accompanying me on this field trip.
