All 6th grade students at The Classical Academy, Bear Valley have an opportunity to attend a 3-day, 2-night class trip to Idyllwild, California to participate in AstroCamp on October 6-8, 2025!
Please note, this is an optional educational trip. Spots are limited and are open to all students on A, B, and C Track on a first come, first served basis. The camp may fill before the first deadline. Additional spots will NOT be available once the camp fills.
Cost: The cost per student is $400.00. This price covers transportation, all camp costs, meals (except lunch on arrival day), and a t-shirt.
Camp Activities include:
Atmosphere & Gases - Learn about planetary atmospheres and changes in states of matter as you experiment with pressure, temperature, density, and other gas properties.
Initiatives - Participate in cooperative and problem-solving activities that build teamwork, trust, cooperation, and communication skills.
Sky Coaster - Students pull one classmate to a desired height and swing through the air.
Zip Line - Climb up a cargo net, then zip 700 ft. across the meadow.
Building and Launching Rockets - Learn about force and the laws of motion to successfully design, build, and launch rockets powered by water and pressurized air.
Planetarium - An excellent introduction to stars and constellations. Enter the star domes and learn about the circumpolar rotation of the stars, discuss constellation myths, and create your own constellations.
Expedition Valles Marineris - State-of-the-art rock wall and interactive touch screen computers make you feel like you're researching on the surface of Mars while climbing the walls of the largest canyon in the solar system.
Space Night -Telescope viewing and night hike as darkness arrives, groups will depart for a short walk on a nearby trail. Activities include sensory awareness games, stories, stargazing, and demonstrations of our ability to adjust to darkness. Groups will then head to one of the Telescope viewing areas, using binoculars, digital cameras, manual telescopes, and state-of-the-art 12" Meade computerized Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes to view the night sky.
Astro Olympics - A carnival atmosphere prevails in this series of games where groups compete and have fun at the end of the day.
Chaperones: We are only able to take a limited number of chaperones on this trip. If you are interested in being a chaperone, please indicate so on your paperwork when you register. Chaperones are selected via a lottery process. Once chaperones are determined, we will accept chaperone payments. Chaperone cost is $290. Chaperone selection date TBD.
