I work at a software security company called Illumio, on a part of the product called Illumination. Illumination visualizes application traffic within our customers' data centers, and promotes actions to secure that traffic. When we first started working on Illumination, we couldn't find many examples of those going through similar experiences as us.

Now, two years later, it seems there are a lot more people building visualizations within a product. So I have been wondering: if you do dataviz within a product, what have your experiences been like? What are some challenges you have gone through?

I'm hoping to compile the responses into a write-up, a collection of Mistakes Made and Lessons Learned. I'm hoping that it'll foster community between those of us who have gone through it, or are going through it. And I'm hoping that it'll provide support for those of us who are just starting. I'm also hoping to reference some of these responses for my talk at OpenVis Conf 2016 (openvisconf.com), where I will be talking about the lessons I learned building Illumination.

I'm really excited about what I'll learn from this process, and I hope you can help by either filling or sharing this survey.
