Brief Background of Organization's Origin
BEACON House, Inc. was created through the efforts of Anthony Williams looking to find a way to give back to the community and especially help people grow in their knowledge and understanding of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics. After two decades of teaching/administrative positions in various private and public schools on 4 continents, he decided to put all that he learned from his education and experience into a nonprofit focused on improving STEAM Education access and achievement.
Board Member Expectations
Board members serve for up to 3 years with the option of serving another 3 years at the end of their term. Since we are adding 10-12 new board members we will be randomly assigning term lengths of 1, 2, or 3 years of service to individuals who are selected. All board members are required to attend bi-monthly full board meetings and on the opposite months committees meet to work. All board members are required to be part of the funding committee and select an area of focus to be financially supportive of the organization and help raise operations and programming costs. Then all board members must select another committee to be on from the list. If a board member is absent two consecutive full board meetings or attends less than 4 full board meetings a year they can be removed from the board. If a board members attends less 4 committee meetings a year the board member can be removed. Board members represent the organization and should be driven by the mission to be involved. The organization is still emerging and needs dedicated and passionate individuals that represent the diversity of Frederick, Washington, Berkeley, and Franklin Counties and board members should live and/or work in these counties. If selected you will be notified in November and invited to attend our orientation in December. Your term of service would start January 1st, 2020. If not selected you will be notified in November and asked to stay involved as a volunteer.

Our mission is to increase awareness, access, and achievement in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics education grounded in our core pillars of scholarship, service, and stewardship. We believe that all people are entitled to equity of access and achievement of their dreams accomplished through Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics integrated learning. We acknowledge in life when your basic needs and/or health needs are not supported then it becomes difficult to focus on education. We work through partnerships and innovative programming to help eliminate these distractions to support individuals and families in their learning and pursuit of their dreams.
