Board of Directors Application

Sustainable Food Edmonton

Our History

Sustainable Food Edmonton is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to supporting individuals and communities since 1989. In 2000, the association really began to focus on food issues in the Capital Region; in particular, connecting communities with their local food system by delivering such programs as City Farm, LittleGreen Thumbs, and Community Gardens. In 2011, the Board changed the name of the organization to Sustainable Food Edmonton to better reflect their work in the Capital Region. Our vision is to: To ensure Edmontonians benefit from urban agriculture.

With a set of values that encompass experiential and lifelong learning, collaboration, cooperation, engagement, diversity, equity, creativity, innovation, and environmental stewardship, the following mission was developed and adopted in September of 2014: Sustainable Food Edmonton initiates and supports projects and programs to encourage the building of community through urban agriculture.

Our Organization continues to evolve, in 2022 we developed a new strategic plan with the underlying message of, “How to feed the world without depleting our planet”. This brought us to a new and current Vision and Mission and new programs and direction!

Our Present
